What is RIKEN SciNetS?
RIKEN SciNetS (SciNeS : Scientists’ Networking System) is a web system built upon the "Semantic Web", a next generation web standard. Making use of the latest in cloud computing technology, the system is capable of simultaneously hosting upwards of thousands of virtual laboratories, enabling every individual user to access and control each data item. The system is being developed and operated by Bioinformatics And Systems Engineering (BASE) division of RIKEN.(http://scines.org).
Virtual labs on the RIKEN SciNetS system enable each lab owner (researcher) to easily create and publish databases without the need to maintain individual web servers. This information infrastructure can be beneficial for Japanese researchers in implementing international collaborative research. These labs are used as an integrated life science information infrastructure incorporating functions including a programming environment, a digital lab notes system, and information resources for biomass engineering research activities.
GenoCon is to be organized using one of the virtual labs on RIKEN SciNeS. By releasing some of these functions, GenoCon offers its participants an environment for research that is welcoming and easy for the average user to understand.

Concepts of RIKEN SciNetS
About Directory Structure of RIKEN SciNetS
Like directory structure of Windows, RIKEN SciNetS adopts the directory structure shown below by using three concepts ‘Disc`,`Folder` and `Page` and they are collectively referred as `contents`.
As shown below, more than one folder can be created under the disc and more than one page can be created under the folder respectively.
You can create a file under the file.
You can attach any number of files to each `disc`, `folder`, and `page`.

What is SciNetS ID?
SciNetS ID is a unique ID assigned automatically by system to each content on RIKEN SciNeS. For example, ID of this page is `cria196s1ria196s28i` which is shown at the end of URL.
In order to obtain a SciNetS ID
A lot of databases are registered on RIKEN SciNeS. You can load existing DNA sequences from the databases into your programs by using functions of JavaScript@SciNeS. In order to load such data, you need to obtain SciNeS ID of the contents which you want to use.
If you wish to obtain SciNetS ID with a keyword, please go to
search page.
If you wish to obtain SciNetS ID for a particular content, click `information` and find a string of letters shown after `SciNeS ID`. The ID is also shown at the end of URL.
As an example, we introduce how to get a SciNeS ID by use of
`Useful information links for genome design`
①Click
Useful information links for genome design
②Click `SciNetS` listed in ` Information of IRE(Internal ribosomes entry site) `.

③Click `Information` shown on the screen.

④The window below will be opened. SciNetS ID is a string of letters shown after `SciNeS ID` at the bottom of the window shown below. Use the string of letters by copying.

Other links, useful information for GenoCon, are on the
Useful information links for genome design`
You can obtain SciNetS IDs from every content linked from
the Useful information links for genome design by the procedure just mentioned above.
If your desired sequences are not listed in the links, search them with keywords from
the top page of RIKEN SciNetS
